Ikea Entertainment Center
Although I hate building furniture from kits, against my better judgment, Jen and I bought a bunch of Ikea BESTÃ… furniture to build an entertainment center upstairs in our loft. Our loft is basically going to be used as a kids playroom, video game and air hockey room. Despite my trials and tribulations I was happy with our results. I did run into some Ikea pitfalls which I will describe.
Here is what the plan looks like by either going to the store or on the Ikea website and building a custom one.
So we went to the store and had them print out a parts list which basically included 2 small cabinets, 2 bookcase cabinets, 2 double medium cabinets, and 2 single medium cabinets. Plus matching doors for all except the lower medium cabinets (double plus single to make it three cabinets wide so we could fit a 50" Flat panel TV) which we used a 2 door slider on with wood and clear glass cabinets. I couldn't get their website to show the options we bought for the top but we used doors with thinner edges but still wood, and a fogged glass. We also put the smallest doors on the left and right sides in the middle of the cabinets with the medium ones on top. The program doesn't tell you they work that it can work that way because the cabinets aren't the same size, but it's modular so it worked out. You'll see what I mean in the after photo if you pay close attention
Ok planning and purchasing is done. So first we put together the frames as per the instructions. Then I decided to cut off the baseboard so I could properly bolt the cabinets to the wall and not have it lean or have to shim it. I wanted to give it a built in look. See pics of me cutting below
